The AICC hosted a business dinner for the Deputy Governor, Research and International Affairs, of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, Mr Fahad Al Shathri Ph. D, and his colleague Mr Meshari Alkadhi, during their recent study visit to Ireland.  Dr Al Shathri is also a member of the Saudi Government SME Commission, and he is especially interested in learning about Ireland’s experiences in developing the SME sector which has grown so successfully in recent decades.

The AICC was pleased to welcome the newly appointed Moroccan ambassador to Ireland, HE Mr. Lahcen Mahraoui, and his Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Rachid Seghrouchni, to the Chamber on 17th January 2017 to discuss Moroccan/Irish trade and commercial relations and to consider new areas of potential opportunity in the coming years.

The Arab-Irish Chamber of Commerce attended the 45th United Arab Emirates National Day celebrations, which had approximately 550 guests in attendance.

On 9 June, President Michael D. Higgins and Sabrina Higgins hosted a Garden Party to acknowledge Individuals and Organisations Working like the Arab-Irish Chamber of Commerce to Achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, agreed in New York in September, 2015.

The first Annual Iraqi–European Business & Investment Forum will be held on 21-22 April, 2016, in Athens, Greece, under the theme ‘Iraq and Europe: Cooperation and Growth’.

Irish merchandise exports to the Arab countries surged by 29% to €2.2bn in the twelve months to end May 2015. This represented an overall increase of €491m.

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin T.D., signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and the Ministry of Public Sector Development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart in Dublin on May 27th 2015cs.

Further to the Saudi Arabian Council of Ministers decision in its meeting held on 21 of July 2014, which permitted the Capital Market Authority (the CMA) to allow foreign financial institutions to trade shares listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (the Tadawul), at a time the CMA deems appropriate and pursuant to the regulations to be issued by the CMA, the CMA Board of Commissioners on 04 of May 2015 issued the Rules for Qualified Foreign Financial Institutions Investment in Listed Shares (the QFIs Rules).

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, has been named as a recipient of the Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Awards 2014 for the Irish abroad, making him one of a select group of people, and the first Irish person living in the UAE, to be recognized by the Irish government for his outstanding contribution to Irish business and communities abroad.

In the presence of the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Ireland, Abdulaziz bin Abdulaziz Aldriss recently handed over the FEI Nations’ Cup of the International Union to winning team from the USA.

Shares in Limerick based Oil Exploration Company increase by 28%

Circle Oil, a Limerick based Oil Exploration Company confirmed it has struck oil in Tunisia. It is estimated that the new well could contain as much as 100 million barrels of recoverable oil.

Emirates and Etihad Airways both announce an increase in flight frequency, to twice-daily, in their Dublin to UAE services

From 1st September 2014, the Emirates service to Dubai will increase from one to two flights per day. Over 440,000 passengers have travelled on the Dublin – Dubai service since 2012.

Since Emirates’ inaugural flight from Dublin on 9 January 2012, the airline has connected over 442,000 passengers on its daily Dublin to Dubai route, carrying over 22,000 tonnes of cargo and supporting Irish exports including seafood, chocolates, beef and Botox. Emirates employs 442 Irish nationals and established a dedicated reservations office in Dublin in 2012.

The largest overseas trade delegation ever organised by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Ireland from 6th to 9th April 2014. The leader of the group of 40 companies, H.E. Khalfan Saeed Jumaa Al Kaabi, Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, said that the visit was arranged to explore possibilities for new business with Ireland and to honour a commitment made to the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, in January 2014 when he led a large Irish trade mission to Abu Dhabi.

The ninth meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) between the Governments of Ireland and Saudi Arabia was held in Riyadh from 18-19 February 2014, six weeks after the visit of the large Irish trade mission headed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister Richard Bruton.
